Discovering literature and art in KrakowKrakow is sometimes called Poland’s cultural capital. Starting in the Main Market Square you can see artistic works from across the ages: the masterpiece of Wit Stwosz (Veit Stoss) - the altar - carved in wood which stands in St. Mary’s Basilica, the Secession polychromy of Stanislaw Wyspianski in the Franciscans church or the avant-garde art of Tadeusz Kantor. You can see the best examples of the modern art in several art galleries like in Zderzak Gallery. Krakow is also a centre for the literature. The Nobel prize winner Wislawa Szymborska lives and works here. With a bit of luck you could meet Slawomir Mrozekin the streets.
