Krakow is sometimes called Poland’s cultural capital. A city of art and literature, Krakow is permanently inscribed in the history of Polish culture due to the many artists and authors it has produced. Starting in the Main Market Square you can see artistic works from across the ages: the masterpiece of Wit Stwosz (Veit Stoss) - the altar - carved in wood which stands in St. Mary’s Basilica, the Secession polychromy of Stanislaw Wyspianski in the Franciscans church or the avant-garde art of Tadeusz Kantor. You can see the best examples of the modern art in several art galleries like in Zderzak Gallery.

Krakow is also a centre for the literature. The Nobel prize winner Wislawa Szymborska lives and works here. With a bit of luck you could meet Slawomir Mrozekin the streets. This tour is not simply a trip around famous monuments, but enriched by the literary and artistic works visited. Your guide, the specialist of literature, will take you through each step, introducing you in a deep and novel way to a city which you are just getting to know.

The last stop of the tour are the original and colourful art nouveau interiors of the Jama Michalika Café. A cup of coffee or glass of Polish vodka allows time for a rest and discussion of the role of art and literature in Krakow.
